It was a morning back in Feb 2015 when Sonja and The Second Breakfast had the pleasure of having film maker Andrew Walsh drop in to talk about his LGBTIQ short film : Growing Out.

Growing Out

‘Andrew Walsh is an independent filmmaker who creates short films of diffrent genres combining a fearless uncompromising style with personally intimate storytelling. Andrew has written directed and produced 3 more short films independently without any kind of funding. Each project demonstrating a keen sensitivity for his characters an eye for visual beauty in the kind of places you’d least expect and a brave approach to tackling difficult themes.

Andrew resides in Melbourne Victoria and is currently halfway through his 5th short film I Miss The War which is a honest poignant drama/comedy about 3 different sisters who reunite on the ninth anniversary of their mothers death and go to war with with each other.

I Miss The War is Andrew’s most personal project and will be hitting screens in 2015.’

Growing Out is a little film that tackles some of the big issues like Homophobia and sport and relationships and how it effects us when some one in the friendship zone comes OUT..and what that means.

Andrew Walsh is a very busy local Melbourne film maker with many projects on the go and Growing Out is a labour of love, telling a story that we don’t see very much of in Aussie TV culture.

In the studio one of the lead actors Dan Hill is present and he talks about his experience in his role in Growing Out and cinema photographer Justin Brewster relays his method in creating the ‘look’ of the film.

And here is a link to Dan Hill and Justin’s : Improv Sessions here
